Sometimes referred to as "PiYo" or "Yogalates", this is a
workout combining *Yoga and *Pilates, as well as principles of sports stretch,
strength training and dynamic movement to improve strength, flexibility, balance,
core stability, reduce stress and provide a mild cardiovascular effect. It is a
non-traditional application of various styles of Yoga and Pilates in combination
with constant movement and flow from one exercise to the next.
It is non-spiritual and does not involve chanting or meditating.
YOGA
The benefits of Yoga include relaxation, improved balance,
coordination, skeletal alignment, strength, flexibility and function of internal
glands and organs. This class focuses on deep breathing and stretching. It is
non-fatiguing, non-competitive, and is for all ages and fitness levels.
PILATES
The Pilates method of body conditioning is a unique system
of stretching and strengthening exercises developed over 90 years ago by Joseph H.
Pilates. It strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture, provides flexibility
and balance, and creates a more streamlined shape. This work-out will challenge
the abdominal muscles and tone the buttocks, hips and thighs.
